His constructive comments and criticism gave me valuable ideas for focusing my future research work.

I came to know Kimmo as a humble man, who did not care for glory and hype, but who always charmed his audience with insight and technical excellence, and personality.

His seminal influence as one the great intellectuals and foremost scientists in computer science will continue in the works and deeds of his students and colleagues, who had the priviledge to know and work with him.

Prof. dos. I am grateful that he chose to spend some of that seemingly limitless energy on me, as he did for so many other young students. I feel privileged for the years I worked in his team at the University of Helsinki and the projects we shared. Kimmo, wherever you are now, I hope that there are plenty of new challenges to tackle and new places to be. I know that you would never be content to merely rest in peace.

Farewell, mentor and friend.

Mika LiljebergAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5150940973332933042.post-86636784335225514702008-03-22T00:21:00.000+02:002008-03-22T00:21:00.000+02:00This is sad news indeed. He brought a very broad and genuine understanding of his field to those with which he worked. And he always spoke up for what he believed was right. I will always remember him and the times we spent exchanging ideas and working together in the W3C.

John Schneider
CTO, AgileDelta Inc.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14558640324887431849noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5150940973332933042.post-67095761191070472712008-03-21T23:19:00.000+02:002008-03-21T23:19:00.000+02:00Professor Raatikainen's work was an inspiration to...Professor Raatikainen's work was an inspiration to me as were the opportunities I was privileged to have to work with him on W3C activities.

Michael LeventhalMichael Leventhalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17542052207177025337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5150940973332933042.post-3174280489279501442008-03-20T13:43:00.000+02:002008-03-20T13:43:00.000+02:00I am so sorry to hear the really, really sad news ...I am so sorry to hear the really, really sad news only so late. Not only was Kimmo Raatikainen a distinguished and renowned scientist, he was a dedicated and true friend. When I think about how Finland has remade itself into a technological powerhouse in a single generation, it will be men (and women) like Kimmo that will come to my mind. His life was all too short, but he burned so very brightly.
Prof. Randy H. Katz, University of California, Berkeley, USARandy H.
